Welcome to the UT IIS Group

University of Tehran

The University of Tehran Intelligent Information Systems (IIS Lab) is engaged in research within the fields of natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine learning, with a primary aim of advancing language understanding and information access technologies.

Led by Associate Professor Azadeh Shakery, we create innovative algorithms and devise fresh frameworks to address complex challenges in text information management, leveraging techniques such as deep learning, learning to rank, and statistical language modeling.

Our mission is to push the frontiers of artificial intelligence and information retrieval, simultaneously facilitating significant advancements in practical applications with wide-ranging implications for real-world problems in Persian and multilingual contexts.

Our research encompasses diverse areas including:

  • Information retrieval and search systems
  • Natural language processing for Persian and low-resource languages
  • Cross-lingual information access
  • Question answering and conversational AI
  • Text mining and social media analysis
  • Learning to rank and neural ranking models
  • Speech processing and text-to-speech synthesis
